ARRIVALS

Southern Cross, s.s., from Wellington, Ttiapier, Gisborne, and East Cape ports. Passengeref Messrs Nenrcomb, Liddel, and five in steerage.

MrE. Mulgan, purser s.s. Southern Cross] reports :—Left Wellington on the 19bh inst. at 7 p.m., called at Napier, Gisborne, East Cape bays, arriving here afc 1.30 p.m..today. Wβ experienced variable wind 3 and ■weather up the Coa3t.

On Friday evening last, at the Cosfcley Home, the Epiphany Glee Club, under the baton of Mr Simpson, rendered in a pleaeing manner, a capital programme of vocal and instrumental music, to a large number of the inmates, by whom it was thoroughly enjoyed. . Again on the follows ing evening, Mr Edwin Cox, assisted by. Mr Davis, and the Misees ColebrooW and Knight, gave at the Home a most thoroughly enjoyable entertainment, ex--ceeding in merit their former successful' eiTorts° to cast some ray of brightness over the monotonous livee of the old; people. The programme was a happily, chosen one. Mr Cox contributed two songs, "The Vicar oi Bray" and "The Holy Friar, Miss Ida Colebrook efficiently presided at the piano and Mr Cranwell occupied the chair. Afcar a! hearty vote of thanks to Mr Cox and l party on the proposition of Mr Mc-j Kenzie, cake and coffee were banded round to the inmates by fcbe kind liberality of the entertainers, the old! ceople dispersing to their respective quarters heartily pleased with the ex-' cellence of the entertainment provided,: Air Bartley, the architect of the Home, haa! donated a valuable addition to the Institution, in the shape of a lectern and prayer 1 desk of chaste design, for use at the Sunday Rarvices The manager thanks Mr Hudson for gift 'of illustrated and other papers for; uss.of the inmates.
