ROBBING A WHARE.

Feedeuiok Williams and Thomas McDowell were charged nt the Police Court this morning with having stolen 401b of kauri gum belonging to James Nui, a Fijian. Mr E. Cooper appeared for tho accused, who pleaded not guilty. James Nui deposed that he was ft gumdigaer at Whangaparoa. On the day in question he left soma gum in his whare, and when he returned ifc was missing. He went to Mr Bond's store and found that his gum had bean sold thore. Enoß Bond deposed that N"ni complained that ho had losb some gum. Witnoss sent for Williams to bring down his gum. When it was emptied oub Nut and soma Maoris camo in, and tho former picked out several pieces which ho claimed us his own. Witness secured the gum and telegraphed bo the police. Matte Kono, a Maori, depo?od to hearing Williams o!fer Nui to givo him a tont, blanket, and some gum if ha Would nob go on with tho proceedings. Tiie defendant left the field next morning. Witness identified tho gum in Court as belonging to Nui. Sorgoant Kelly deposed that the gum (produced) had been handed over to him by Mr Bond. Tho defonco was that tho gum had been day; by tho prisoners. The Bench sentenced ouch prisoner to throe months' with hard labour. J , \ .
