WELLINGTON SPRING MEETING.

There was fine weather for the first day's racing of the Wellington Racing,. Club's Spring Meeting. About 800 people wore present), including His Excellency the Governor. Tho various events were well contested, and two dividends of £30 10s and £35 143 were paid. The sum of £3,837 wa3 invested in the totalisators. The concluding vacfis resulted: — Hutt PAK.tr Spring Handicap of 130eovs. One mile and a quarter. Mr J. Paul's Boulanger, by Grand Prix —Fleurette, B*t 21b (Collelo) 1 Mr G. Hunter's Whisper, 9st 41b (Clifford) 2 Mr A. Lloyd's Orator, 7st 31b (Gillett)... 3 Vendor (7st 121b) and Lenore (7st 71b) also ran. The field were sent away at the first attempt to a good start, Orator and Boulanger in the lead, with Lenore and Vondor a length away, and Whisper a length behind thorn. This order was maintained passing the stand, arid until rounding the turn, when Orator drew out a clear length from Boulanger, who was juat clear of Lenore and Vendor. Along the back stretch Orator- fell away, and Boulangor Jed, closely attended by Vendorand Lenore, Whisper lying fourth, and Orator last. Approaching the road, Whi&por easily cut down Vendor and Lenore, but she could not reach the favourite, who won comfortably by four lengths, a length separating Whisper and Orator. Time, 2min l7sec. Dividend, £1 17e.
Maiden Plate of 40sovs. One mile and a distance. Mr R. Gooseman's Egalite, 7st 71b (Swiney) ... 1 Mr D. Campion's Josephine, 7st 31b ... 2 Mr G. Smith's Fly, 7sb 111b (Collelo) ... 3 Once Again, Box Iron and Victress wore the other starters. Egalite won by half a length. Time, 2min Bsec. Dividend, £4 9s. Selling Race of 30sovs. One mile and a quarter. Mr N. Beetham's Vision, Bst 121b (Clifford) 1 Mr G. Smith's Fly, 7st 121b (Collelo) ... 2 Mr F. Martin's Sylph, 6sb 12lb (Pric3)... 3 Once and The Arab also ran. Vision led from tho starb to the fi-jisli, and won easily by six lengths. Time, 2min 17isec. I Dividend, £1 Bs. Flvivg Handicap, of 50sovs. Three-quar-ters of a mile. Mr J. K. Hamilton's Angler, Bsb (Lindsay) 1 Mr J. Freeth's Rebellion, 7at (Reid) ... 2 Mr D. Campion's Josephine, 7st (Price) 3 Cynisca (9st 61b), Boulanger (3sb 121b, including 71b penalty), Retina (Bst 2ib), Cyclone (7eb 111b), Comet (7st 21b), and Gladstone (6et 91b, including 21b overweight) also ran. When entering the Boulanger, who was the favourite, fell away, apparently beaten, and Angler, coming with a run, snatched a victory from Rebellion by a length. Time, lmin 16Jaec. Dividend, £5 14a.
