BAPTIST UNION.
At the afternoon meeting of tho Baptist Union yesterday, resolutions weie passed urging that the sanctity of tho Lord's Day be guarded and upheld with all earnestness and caro by the churches, and the necessity for special efforts be made to check tho baneful influence of gambling. Fraternal greetings were received from tho Now Zoaland Alliance and responded to, and it was resolved renew the engagement of tho Rev, Thos. Spurgeon as Union Evangelist. It was agreed to requesb the churches to hold a week of prayer for tho unsaved, beginning with tho first Sunday in May. votes of thanks wero passod to the members, officers, and pastor of the Baptist , Tabernacle for' thoir hospitality and to the press for tho reports published. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows:— President, tho Rev. J. T. of Caversham, Dunedin; vicepresident, Mr F. Battley ; secretary, the Rev. W. R. Woolley; treasurer, Mr J. T. Garlick ; auditors, Messrs E. 801 l and R. Fry. The best bhanks of tho assembly were accorded bo bhe Rev. Mr Woolley and tho Hon. T. Dick for their services as secretary and treasurer during the past year. Executive Committee : Messrs Dick, North, Dallatton, Driver and Carson were elected as the Executive Committee of the Union. Students' Committee : Messrs Dewdney, North, Driver, Dick, and H. B. Kirk were re-elected as the Students' Committee. Messrs North, Dallaston, and Driver were elected as a Committee to manage the evangelistic mission carried on by the Rev. Mr Spurgeon.
