The second day's racing opened more auepiciously as regards the attendance and the .weather, in both of which there was an, improvement. " ... 1 O'Brien's Little Althur, lOst 131b ... 2 McMaster'e Ixion, Hat 91b ...... 3 Waitangi, Ruapehu, and Waterfall led from a good start over the first hurdle, The Spy, Little Arthur, aud Ixion being next in order, The Don whipping in. Waitangi led to the back of the course, but near Ford's fell back, giving place to Little Arthur. The latter led totheabraight with "Spy and Ruapehu close up. Once over the last hurdle, The Spy came away, and won easily fro da Little Arthur, Ixion pulling up. Time, 3min 2sec. Dividends : Inside, £6 16s ; outside, £9 5s 6d. Criterion Stakes of lOOaovs, Seven furlongs. Webb's Peerswick, 7sb 101b 1 Hunter's Whisper, 9_b 4lb ... ... 2 Webb's Ruby, Bst 61b ... ... ~] 3 Rosebud, St. Malo, Red Cros3, Tempest, Egalite, Wayland, Carronade, and Leo also ran. The colours of St. Malo were the first to show in front. Egalite was lefb at the post. All ran in a'cluster to the top turn, when Whisper came out from the ruck, and appeared to have the race well in hand. When Peerswick and Ruby came strongly, and challenging the leader, a slashing race ensued up the straight, Peerswick securing a victory by a short head, Ruby a neck behind Whisper. Time, 1.42£. Dividends: Inside, £22 16s ; outside, £19 7s. The Derby Stakes, a sweepstakes of 20sovs each, with SQOsovs added ; second horse to receive 75sovs; and J.he third horse 88sovs out of the stake.
