"THE SORCERER."
The Amateur Opera Club opens at th° Opera House this evening in "The Sor' cerer." The drosaos, mounting, etc., are exceedingly rich, and no pains have been spared to make it a success. Time, money, and tact have been freely lavished on " The Sorcerer," and it is to be hoped the opera will charm Auckland to the Opera Houae.
The elections of members for seats on the Waibomata County Council take place throughout the county on Wednesday, the 12th inst. There is eight members to be elected, and there are no lack of candidates. The following wera nominated on Saturday for the various ridings : —Wainui: Mr James Inglis, chairman of the Pukeatua Road Board, and Mr Andrew Jack, junr., chairman of the Wainui Road Board. Takapuna : Mr Robert Mackay, the retiring member, and Messrs W. H. Shakespear and E. Harrow. Northcote : Captain Matthew Slatbery and Mr A. Brucs, the retiring membor. Birkonhead : Messrs Marfcin Monetedfc and Alexander Wilson. Helensville :Mr Isaac McLeod, the retiring member, and Mr Charles Newman, clerk to the Town Board. Mairetahi: Mr Alfred Buckland, of Auckland, and Captain J. A. McMahon, of Parkhuret , . Waitakerei : Mr John Henry O'Neill, the retiring member, and Mr Henry Probert. Waikomiti : Mr Charles Primrose Murdoch and Mr Hum phrey Ewing Sharp.
The Grafton Road Wesleyan Band of Hope vyere to have provided the weekly concert at tW Sailors' Home on Saturday evening last, but out of thirteen performers expected, only six put in an appearance, and the Chairman (Mr Burton) felt called upon in the course of the evening to comment upon the circumstance. Mr Mears contributed two songs very pleasantly and the Misses McDermotband M arson a socrod duot. Mr Holdsworth gave a reading, Master Marson a recitation and a song, while Bro. White, Ark of Eden 1.0. G.T., recited " The Road to Heaven " very well.
Home Mission services were held at the various Anglican Churches yesterday. At St. Matthew's the day was observed ac being within the octave of All Saints' Day, and the music rendered was of an appropriate character. Both church eervicos were conducted by the Rev. W. Tebbs, and in the afternoon an address to children was delivered by Mr J. T. Arundel, The Homo Mission collection amounted to £9 ss. At Sb. Paul's, the Rev. C. M. Nelson preached both morning and evening, and also addressed the children in the after noon. The Home Mission collection totalled about £8. At Epiphany, the morning service wae taken by the Rev. T. Farley and the evening service by Archdeacon Govett. The collections amounted to £4 10a Id. Ab Sb. Mary's, Parnell, Archdeacon Govett preached in the morning, and at the evening service Bishop Cowie read the prayers, the sermon beinp preached by theJßev. G. H. Preston. The day's collection amounted to £1311s sd. At St.Sepulchre's Archdeacon Dudley took the morning and the Rev. Mr 'Marshall the evening; service, and the'collection totalled £24 Os sd. At All Saint's, the Rev. W. Calder preached both morning and even ing, and the collections amounted to £12. Home Mission collections were also taken up at other churches, the results of which should swell the grand total considerably.
