NEWTON.
The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Newton Borough Council took place, last night, when there were present:—, The Mayor (Mr Amburyj, Cre. Webley* Donald, Cleghorn, English, Brown, Cox and Warnock. ! ;
Water Consumption.—The Town Clerk; reported that during the past fortnight 167,000 gallons of water had been consumed] in the borough.—Cr. Brown drew atten-j tion to the fact that more water was con-j sumed when the rainfall was heavy.—Thaj Mayor said they generally found that such! ■was the case. Apparently the people' thought that the water did not cost as much I in wet weather. He moved that the report! be received," and that the turncock be in-] structed to closely witch the consumption: of water in the borough. ' Bridge Road.—Messrs Hellaby Brothers; wrote asking that metal should be laid on; the road from Cox's Creek Bridge toward j their abattoirs. —The matter was referred; to the Streets Committee, with .power to! act. I
Meckel vie-street.— The Streets Com*; mittee recommended that tenders be called j for the drainage works required in Mackel-j vie-street. —This was agreed to.
