LITERARY COMPETITIONS The " Star" CHRISTMAS NUMBER PRIZE STOEIES, &c. With a view to encourage the cultivation of Literature in New Zealand, and at the time provide additional attractions for the Star CfPECIAL CHRISTMAS "ftTUMBER, The following Prizes will be offered for competition :— No. 1. Christmas Tales. For Tales not exceeding in length three columns of the Stak, having special reference to Christmas time, and having the scene wholly or partially laid in New Zealand, the following prizes will be given :— First Prize .;, £3 0 0 Second Prize, handsome Volume on New Zealand, value ...2 0 0 No. 2. Christmas Poem. The Poem must deal with the season as experienced in New Zealand, and not exceed fifty lines in length. First Prize ... ... £2 0 0 Second Prize... Handsome Illustrated Book No. 3. Jiweni/e Competition: Open to Boys or Girls under 16 years of age, for the best ' NARRATIVE OF NEW ZEALAND LIFE AND ADVENT ORE. (True or Fictitious), in length about one column of th&SiAK. The following Pi'izes, are offered:— First prize handsome Book, value £2 0 0 Second prize, Boole, value „, ft 10 0 GENERAL CONDITIONS. 1. Each competition is open to all New j Zealand. , . ~ 2. ;All contributions must be originaljjnot previously published, and written legibly on one side of the paper. . 3. Communications musb reach the Star Office not later than 25th November, and | must in every case be accompanied by the name and address of the sender, which should be enclosed in separate sealed envelope, marked outside with a motto corresponding with the norn dt plume at" tached to, the competition article. 4. Competitors are requested to address contributions " Christmas Competition (No. 1, 2, or 3 as the case may be) ' Stak Office, Auckland." 5. The Proprietor of the Star shall have the right of publishing any of the contributions senb in, whether awarded a prize or not. 6. The prize stories, etc., with the name and address of the writer attached, will b o published in the Star Christmas Number of 1890. 7. Competitors are invibed to send pen or pencil illustrations with their papers but this is nob obligatory $ and compliance i or non-compliance with the request will not affect the judging. . . .
