ALTERATIONS MERELY VERBAL
GOVERNMENT NOT SATISFIED.

Wellington, this day. The Reporting Debates Committee will r e " port that they find the alterations made by Mr Hutchison in the manuscript copy of his speech merely verba}, and nob material. This wae agreed to by a eubstantial majority. Ministers, however, say they are satisfied that the _ alterations made are sufficient to withdraw the 6peech from being privileged, and the probability ia that a civil prosecution will be founded thereon. The decision armed at will be reported to the House to-morrow. The full text of the resolutions passed was : *' Most of tho alterations made were literary, and aa for the remainder of the alterations as to the charges made against the Government, they were nob materially . affected." I learn that the alterations included the introduction of the sentences. "Let un see bow the Government were ke aping the Bank of New Zealand," and thab " money was raised to fill the coffers of the Bank of New Zealand" and a number cf others of a similar character.
