A DAKOTA TORNADO.

LOSS OF LIFE AND PROPERTY AT FARGO. SEVEN MEMBERS OF ONE FAMILY KILLED. St. Paul (Minn.), July 7. A straight wind from the north-west struck Fargo at 2.30 o'clock this morning. Great damage was done in the city. Tho electric light towers were blown down and whole blocks unroofed. Tbe Wigwam, McGill and Co's warehouse, the opera house, tbe " Republican " office, the Keeney block, the battlement on the Bank of North Dakota, the C'hapin block, the Exchange Hotel, the Continental block, and the Manitoba freight-house were unroofed, and tho Milwaukee depot blown down. Dozens of small houses were razed, and almost every plate-glass window on Front-street and Broadwayjbroken. The Crook Hotel and tho Grand Pacific Hotel at Morehead were unroofed. The residence of Rev. Mr McCarthy was,struck by lightning and demolished. Seven children were instantly killed, and Mrs McCarthy is nob expected to live. Two unknown tramps in a box car were killed. No. I paseentjer train on tbo Northern Pacific going west had ju6b pulled out of the yard and stopp'*' at the Milwaukee crossing. The train .6 made up of three baggage cars, nine coaches and sleepers. A party of Chicago and Northwestern officials were in a private car. All of the coaches and the tender were blown from the track, but no lives were lost, and no one fatally hurt. The lights bad .been pub out, so there was no fire or steam. Tbe total damage in the city of Fargo was about. $75,000. The "Pioneer Press" has despatches from many points in the vicinity of Fargo telling of farmhouses, barns and outbuildings in all directions being destroyed. The trees along the river banks for miles from Fargo are broken oS or shorn of their foliage. Wheat, as a rule, escaped. Casselton reports the bridges in all directions washed out or blown away. Afc Mabletown nearly every building in tho town sustained some damage, and a number of people were slightly hurt. Despatches from WheaMand, Durbin, Ayr, and some other points tell the same story. No additional fatalities are reported, but many points are to be heard from.
