BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETINGS.
NEWTON.
The ordinary meeting of this body was held last night. Present : Mr S. G. Ambury (Mayor), Cr*. Riges, Webley, Cleghorn, Donald, English, Brown, Cox, and Warron. ■ \FrjtK Brigade.—A letter was read,from the.eecretary of tho Newton Fire Brigade, aakjng tho patronage of the Council to a concert and dance to be held oh Augusft SOfch. On the motion ol Cr. KifTgs, seconded by Cr. Brown, it was decided 'to eccedo to tho request. Water Consumption.—The Town Clerk
reported fchat the water consumed during the" pasb fortnight Was .146,000 srallons. ' The report was received. . Sanitahy Matters. —Mr Currie reported liavintr inspectod the Abattoirs in the borough, also the Tallow Company's premises, and had found everything satisfactory. • ' ' ■ '~ ' Co-operative Ivsubajtce. — The TovWi • Clerk "of Blenheim wrote submitting-rar echemo for a co-operative system of muni--' ■ cipal insurance. —Tho Council resolved, that Jfaßiirvvas brought before,the'House it would receive their support. Beach Road.—Cr. Donald eaid he wished to draw attention to the state of Beach Road,'ae a portion of it had completely collapsed. Last night the load approaching tho bridjro over Cox's Creek from Mason's Point was a foot under water. The east wind was blowing up the channel and the water was five feet higher than ib had been fqr some years past-.—The Mayor eaid it was a question whether .under the Public Works ActtheAucklandCity Council was not liable.it being the governing bedy. —Cr. Brown said that the City Council should care for the whole of the bridge and approaches from bank bo bank, arid charge ithe Newton Council with its quota. He moved that .they should notify the City Council that the approaches to the bridge required attention, as they had been very fcadly damaged by the high tide,—This was Seconded by Cr. Kigge, and adopted unanimously. Sosskx anp Surrey - street*- — Cr. Webiey'drew attention to the state of some portions of Sussex and Surrey-streets for want of metal. Hβ proposed that scoria be laid 15 feeb wide in those streets, from Richmond lload. to. Rose Road. — Cr. ■ English seconded the motion.—The Mayor mo red as an amendment Uiafc the matter be referred to the Streets Committee to report ■on the question of wae seconded and adopted. -
PARNELL. Messrs Scaly (Mayor), Savajre, Gay, * JJcConnell, Coleraan, Gilmour, Auger, and McCabepttended the usual meeting'of the Parnell Borough Council last evening. A considerable amountof routine business was transacted. • Cleveland Road.-—ln response to a request from Mr Frater, the Couucil decided to put some ecoria on tbe woret parts of jCleveland Road at once. Fire Insurance.—Tbe copy 01 scheme v «jf municipal and cooperative fire ineuranco forwarded to the Council by the Blenheim Borough Council was referred / to the Legnl and Finance Committee. Bukgess Rou,.—A request from Mr R. S. Reynolds that bis name be placed on tbe Burgos 3 Roll of the borough was com- ' plied with. , . ~ ' STBEET3.r-It was decided to repair the asphalt footpath in Manukau Road , , near .Mr Brisgs's shop; to form a culvert m Scarboro' Lane in order to prevent the flooding of Dr. Maunsell's paddocK; to ■■ repair footpath and channel in St. Georges Bay Road. ~ XfOTSA>rcE,--The Inspector of Nuisances . !was empowered to take such steps as he thought bost to abate a nuisance in Campball Terrace.
