REMUERA SOCIAL.

A DISTINCT SUCCESS. Ef the Remuera Social Union can always provide a concert and entertainment of the 'excellence of the one given last night, the continuance of the popularity of its gatherings .is assured. Nob only was the programme surprisingly well selected, but all the performers were perhaps the best exponents Of the various items that could have been found in Auckland. The Remuera Hall was crowded. All the world and his wife and his sisters and his brothers and his cousins and hie aunts were present, and for once in a way an Auckland audience' was not only enthusiastic, but did not mind showing they were pleased. Last night they were roused out of themselves and completely carried away by the really exquisite einging of Messrs Jackeon ■ and Dufaur. It is seldom indeed that one gets two such voices in an amateur concert. Their singing of the duet." Excelsior " was a very triumph of artistic vocalisation. Both sang solos. Mr Jackson gang "Only Once More." and then in response to an encore, "La Donna c Mobile," from Verdi's " Rigoletto," a song of such dashing swing and go that one ia entirely carried away by it. Mr Dufaur sang «• VVho Deeply Drinks of Wine " magnificently, and had to reepond to a raptuioue encore with "No, My Courage." The instrumental part of the programme was also about as good as it could possibly be. Mies Bnckland plays the violin divinely, and with a delicacy of execution really remarkable. Her "Fantasie Musicale" was a rare musical treat). Mise Wrighb gave a brilliant performance on the piano, and H6rr,Tutschka was also very good. Everyone enjoyed the "Song That Beached My Heart" and *'• Annie Laurie " sung by Mrs Cooper. In the, comedietta, " Ruth*s Short especially distinguished herself. Her acting was really first-class.
