Sir, —Your correspondent " Discontent " is not aware that the present newspaper reading room at the Free Library wae not planned lor that purpose now used, bub for the Landing Library. In their anxiety, however, to give increased accommodation for readers, the Council devoted it to ite present purpose. As to ornamentation and •' fal derale," ib would require a good pair of spectacles to find thorn ! I can soe there is nothing for it, but to Keep the whole of the Library open day and inghtlwibhsleeping accommodation for those who already lodge, board, and waeh there). As, however, the institution is almost entirely supported by ratepayers, the main question ie how many of them are inconvenienced by allowing their employees to work only ten hourfdaily. Of course, your correspondent is arf%ghb-hour man.—l am, etc., Evkn as Yβ Would.
