Auckland Gas shares were sold for £10 15e, and there were inquiries for Thames Gas at "28s. -In mining stock an advanco waa made in Saxon shares, which changed hands at 5s 4d and 5s 6d, with still buyers at 5s 3d. There were also buyers of Moanataiari ab 4s 6d, Try Fluke ab Bs, Norfolk Is, Mariposa Is, and Alburnias 3s 3d. Royal Oake advanced in price in coneoquence of picked stone having been obtained. Four shillings was offered and declined, there beiDg no sellers under 4e 6d. May Queen changed hands at 2s, and Dives, ab 2s and 2s Id. jjgPrompb action on the part of a lad named Henry Cossar probably prevented a tire on Saturday night in Victoria-street. He was passing the premisea of Mr Carter, draper, when he noticed the curtains of an upstairs window in flames. Cosar, with praiseworthy decision, ran across the roadway, through the shop, and upstairs. Arrived there, he tore down tho curtains and stamped out the fire before any great damage was done. It transpired ■that the fire was accidentally caused by a little girl, who was crossing the room with a lighted candle. During the sfcorm at Onehuriga on Saturday, a flash of lightning sMuck-and killed the shepherd's pony on Week's Island, killing ifc instantaneously. The:; pony was etanding in company with another horse immediately in front of the shepherd's cottage ab the time. There was no visible mark on the body of the animal. '"'"*'■'
