INSTALLATION NIGHT. Last evening a special meeting of members of the Star of Auckland Lodge, No. 26, Independent Order of Oddfellows, American Constitution, was held in the Lodge Room, New Zealand Insurance Buildings, for the dual purpose of installing officers for the ensuing term and of according a fraternal welcome to Right Worthy Grand Master Bro. Jas Medley, who was expected to arrive from the South last evening. There was a good attendance of sixty members. Several new candidates were initiated,/and a large amount of general business transacted. The Secretary read the balance-sheet and accounts of the Lodge for the past term of six months, which showed the Lodge to be on the soundest of footings financially. The Lodge had gained fifteen members during the term, with no secessions. Copies of the annual report and balance-sheet of the Grand Lodge of New Zealand were distributed, from which it appeared that the Star of Auckland Lodge is the only one of the Order in Australasia which possesses a surplus. The sick fund credit balance was shown to be £757 12s Id, and tbe surplus fund credit account £146 Is 7d, tho total assets being £1,036 17s lOd and liabilities £64 12s lid, leaving the very satisfactory credit balance of £982 4s lid on hand. The accounts were unanimously adopted. The business of installing the officers-elect for the ensuing term in their respective chairs was then proceeded with. D.D.G.M. Bro. E. R. Pigott acted as Installing Master, and installed with the usual ceremony the following officers, congratulating the lodge on their choice :— Noble Grand, Bro. J. H. Phillpott; Vice Grand, Bro. A. R. Mclntyro ; Permanent Secretary, Bro. J. Burchell, P.G. (re-elected) P. Recording Secretary, Bro. H. W. Diggens (re-elected). Treasurer, L. H. Newmegen ; Conductor, Bro. W. A. Harvey (re-elected). The other officers appointed Were":—Right Supporter, N.G. Bro. R. Armiger, P.G. ; L.S.N.G., Bro. G. W. Duthie; R.S.V.G., Bro. N. McCulsky, P.G. ; L.S. V.G., Bro. Havord; Chaplain, Bro. H. Keeping, P:D.D.G.M ; Warden, Bro. J. T. Knight, I. G.; J.G., Bro. Cronin; 0.G., Bro. Piddock. The Installing Master, in a brief speech, expressed his deep regret at the non-arrival of R.W.G.M. Bro. Medley from the South in time for the lodge meeting, owing to the late arrival of the s.s. Gairloch at the Manukau. He then performed a very pleasing duty, the presentation of Past Secretary's and Past Recording Secretary's jewels to Permanent Secretary Bro. Burchell and R.S. Bro. Diggens, as a token of the very high esteem in which they were held by the Lodge for their valuable and conscientious services during the past term. Bro. Pigott also presented P.S. Bro. Burchell with a handsome volume as a slight personal recognition of his worth. The recipients duly responded in cordial terms. As there was'no sign of the R.W.G.M., the lodge was then closed, and the brethren adjourned for supper, a very tasteful collation being provided in the banquet-room by the catering committee. The N.G., Bro. Phillpot, presided. After full justice had been done to the good things provided, a list of toasts was gone through with the usual honours. After the usual patriotic toasts, Vice-G rand Bro. Mclntyre proposed the toast of." Our D.D.G.M., Bro Pigott," and Bro. Pigott responded cordially. Other toasts were; "P. D.D.G.M. Bro. Keesing," by the D.D.G.M., reeponded to by Bro. Keesing; "Star of Auckland by the P.D.D.G.M., responded to by Bro. Harvey, P.G.; ••Past officers of the lodge," by N.G., Bro. Armiger, P.G., responding; «■ Hon, members Star jof Auckland Lodge,' by P.G. Bro. Fell, Bro. Knight, P.G., responding. The toasts of "Kindred Societies," «• Absent Friends and Sick and Distressed Brethren," "The Ladies,'and "The Press," were also duly given, and the remainder of the evening wa. apenb in harmony and conviviali-v.
