THE MARINE OFFICERS.
WITHDRAWAL OF THE ULTIMATUM. The Hon. Geo. McLean had a meeting With all the officers in Wellington yesterday, and discussed the difficulty carefully with them. Subsequently Captain Highman had an interview with Mr McLean, •and agreed to withdraw the notice contained in his letter of Monday last, that ■Oil officers would leave their ships on the 14th instant unless tho demands were conceded. Mr McLean agreed to thus, and negotiations will now be resumed in a friendly Bpirit. A telegram from Dunedin says : A number of telegrams have passed between the secretary of the Marine Officers' Association .and J. C. Millar, secretary of the Maritime Council, re the dispute with shipowners, with tho result that it has been decided bo call a meeting of the Maritime Council in Wellington, probably next Monday. This is at the wish of the shipowners as well as the Marine Officers.
