CONCERT IN PARNELL.

Last evening, in the hall of St. Bonavem tura, attached to St. John's Roman Catholic! Church, Parnell, one of the mosb enjoyable !; concerts given in Parnell for a long time past eventuated. The list of vocalists and other performers included the names of. ' • many well-known Auckland amateurs, and every number was well worth listening to. The proceeds were in aid of the church funds, and the building was 'crowded to the doors. An efficient orchestra, under the conductorebip of Mr E. J. .Burke, rendered/an overture, "New Departure," and Mr J. Knox, conductor of Sfe. Benedict's choir, opened the vocal portion of the programme with a song •• Hear Me, Gentle Maritana." Miss Jenkinson sang "In Old Madrid," one of the prettiest) songs of the evening, and was deservedly applauded. Mr Montague contributed arc amusing recitation, and was recalled. Mrs Cooper sang " The Song That Reached My Heart," and in response to an encore gave "Heigho" most vivaciously. Dr. Egan, conductor of Sb. Patrick's choir, played a flute solo, "Elegia" (Ciardi), and Miss C. Lorrigan followed iv " Remember Me No More*" which she sang in the beab of style. Mr Davis sang "Carissima" well, notwithstanding being handicapped by a cold. Next Miss Josephine O'Reilly, a Sydney young lady of very considerable musical ability, now in Auckland on a brief visit, sang "The Organist," a solo specially composed for her by a Sydney amateur. Misa O'Reilly, who possesses a very powerful, flexible and well-trained voice, delighted the audience, and was recalled twice. The Misses Lorrigan sang a duel), "Sainted Mother," and were encored. During the first parb also an instrumental quartette, symphonies from Weber, was given by Dr. Egan (flute), Rev. Father Lenihan ('cello), Miss Mcllhone (piano), and Mr Mahoney (violin). The orchestra opened the second part of the concert with a waltz, "Isabel," and an instrumental quartette, on airs from Bellini, was given. Mr. Davis ■ saug "The Death of Nelson," Miss McCormick "The Blue Alsatian Mountains." Miss O'Reilly appeared agam in another eong, " The Three Fishers,' and received a mosb decided encore. MreCooper aleo contributed another number "Loves Old Sweet Song," and in response to an encore sang "Trip, Trip," mosb piqua nJ % Mr Conway sang "True Till the Last Throughout the concert the pianoforte accompaniments were played by Miss >ieIlhoneandMr E J.
