Big Fortune for a Chimney Sweep.

A chimney sweep and nine other persona of humble calling and poor fortune in France have fallen heirs to an immense fortune left in the United States by one, of their kindred, called Firmin Nijjperb, who has died intestate. The fortune is stated to amount to £1,600,000, and when that sum is calculated in francs it must appear an enormous accumulation to the average French workman. Nipperb visited France a year ago, and he had the naturalness of heart to search out at least one of his relatives and to entertain him sumptuously at dinner. Ib was the sweep who was thus favoured. Probably hie hosb said nothing to. him about his millions of dollars and his misfortune of nob having direct heirs. At all events, the sweep, when informed by a lawyer of his expectations, laughed outright at the information as so much humbug, and it required a little serious talking to persuade him that hia sooty occupation might now be abandoned. The heirs are widely scattered over all the points of the compass in France, and the lawyers will no doubt enjoy rich pickings before the final apportionment is completed. The lawyers on the other side of the Atlantic will also enjoy their elices of the cake, and perhaps in the end the heirs may tall to quarrelling and grumbling among themselves, and pass tfoe, remainder of'Mr lives unhappily. •••"-. - ■ r !?• -?
