WELLINGTON TRAMWAY STRIKE.

HANDS FINDING EMPLOYMENT.

Wellington, this day. A large meeting , of Unionists was convened by the Trades and Labour Council last night, the press being excluded. Resolutions were carried in effect:—(l) Approving the action of the Council in calling out the tram.employees; (2) that the demands of the employees are reasonable; (3) pledg ing the meeting to assist in carrying the dispute to a successful iaeue, but advising the Council to be ready at any time to effect a peaceful solution of the difficulty; (4) inducing workmen to have one share each in a Co-operative 'Bus Company ; (5) pledging the meeting to support the 'Bus Company, and refrain from riding in the tramway. The speakers counselled moderation, and it was announced that the 'Bus Company had offered to take on as soon as possible those hands who had left the Tramway Company. A number of hands have already obtained work, and it is estimated that) £25 will cover the weekly expense of maintaining the men on strike. The strike has had an effect on the receipts of the Tram Company by a substantial amount), but an improvement ia anticipated next week, when it is expected the full service will again be running, y The strike still continues to be carried on without any demonstration being made by the men who have gone out).
