ATTEMPTED BURGLARY.
ANOTHER VISIT TO . PONSONBY.
It would appear as if the Poiisonby burglar was again on the warpath, for aboub 2 a.m. last Thursday a resident of Wood-streeb, named Mrs Greenaway, was awakened by what to her appeared like an attempt to enter the house. She called for assistance, wWch . wae soon forthcomings in the persons of two neigh.bours, but a careful search did not reveal any man about the place. One of the windows was, however, broken, and traces of footmarks were visible on the concrete paths, whilst a speck of blood was found on the verandah. Another singular thing was thab a resident adjacent to Mrs Greenaway found a dog lying in his yard the san»e morning. The Eoor thing bad evidently had its back roken by a severe blow with a heavy stick. Whether this was connected with the supposed attempt to commit burglary it is,hard to say.,. The police have inquired into the matter, and the detectives consider that no such attempt had been made. It is difficult, however, to account for the broken glass and the blood stains. Why the dog should have been killed has not transpired.
