RETURNED TO ONEHUNGA.

InT-XL-GEXCE from Onehunga today stated that the Northern Steamship Company's steamer Gairloch, which left the Manukau yesterday afi 1 p.m. for Wailara With passengers and cargo, retrarned to Onefaanga this morning in a disabled condition. It seems thab yesterday afternoon, when off Woody. Head, about 45 miles* south of the Manukau,/ the outer portion of her port shaft, together with her propeller blades, broke off outside her hull and sank in'deep water.- . v-iiAWff' As it was impossible to proceed on the journey to Waitara, Captain McArthur decided to return to Onehunga, and a course was shaped back to the. Manukau under canvas, the steamer reaching the harbour ■ safely this morning after a night spent outside.' '■". . :: '.. : . At the Onehunga Wharf the Gairloch's passengers and cargo were transferred to the s.s. Glenelg, which left this morning i for Wanganui via Waitara. The Gairloch's passengers for Waitara were:—Bon. Mr Stevens, Messrs Jamieson. I Waice, Parma, R. F, Cornwall, Rev, • English. This ib the second mishap which has befallen the Gairloch this year. A short time ! ago, it will be remembered, she was aground for some time at Waitara. She is,to receive repairs ab the Manukau.
