THE AUSTRALIAN RECORD BROKEN.

Although the Australian racing season of 1889-90 will not actually close for three months, the Hon. James White has broken all previous records concerning the amount of stakes won, his total up to date being over £20,000. This is a substantial increase on the largest- sum ever previously won by one owner in a season in Australia, the highest sum in former seasons (all to Mr White's credit being £16,728 for 1887-8 ; £15,027 for 1885-6 ; £14,496 for 1888-9; and £13,783 for 1886-7. Mr D. S. Wallace will again be second on the list of winning owners, having up to date won about £9,400 in stakes. Last year the contest between the two most popular owners in New South Wales and Victoria respectively was much closer, Mr White winning £14,496 and Mr Wallace £10,326..
