AUCKLAND WINTER MEETING.
The nominations for the Great Northern Steeplechase and Hurdle Race, received last night, are about up to previous years in point of number and quality, and in excess Of lasfcyear. The " foreigners "in the list ere Auckland (owned by Mr E. McElwain, jof Wanganui); Kangaroo, who belong 8 to Wellington ; Waterfall, the well-known Napier horse; and Jenny and Takapau, be. Jonging to Taranaki; while the long-retired Silvio, the hero of the race in , 1887, appears fn the list. When wo consider the great thinning out from the ranks of our jumping torses, the entries are more than satisfactory. The weights are due on May 26. The following is the list of entries :— • Gkeat Northern Steeplechase of 300 soys., about three miles and a half.—Auckland, Fishmonger, Takapau, Falcon, The Colonel, Magnesia, Silvio, Try Fluke, Hune, Jennie (late Rosebud), Parnell, Kangaroo, Tawhiao, Orlando, Waterfall, Orangeman, Donald. ' Handicap Hurdle Race of lOOsovs., two miles. —Auckland, Fishmonger, Takapau, The Colonel, Leofric, Guilderoy, Try Fluke, Jennie (late Rosebud), Parnell, Operatic, Orlando, Waterfall, Dick Turpin, Orangejnan, Donald, Hailstone.
