RAGING IN THE CELESTIAL EMPIRE.
Horse-racing will now be found in every quarter of the globe in some form or another, and the Celestial Empire has nob escaped. Papers received from Hongkong show thafc pony-racing at any rate flourishes there ; so much so that the Hongkong J.C. held a four-daya , meeting during the last weak in February, which was highly successful. The programme for each day comprised no less than ten events, while on a couple of the days private matches were also run off. The fields were very good. Thus on the second day the largest field consisted of sixteen runners, and the smallesb in a welter race of one mile of four, while the average was nine and ten. No mention is made in the reports of any betting at the meeting, but where there is racing there is almost sure to be a fielder or two. In the names of the ponies we find reminiscences of New Zealand, for Musket figures well up on the Hats, a Carbine 'and a Nordenfeldb are among the runners, and a Volcano winning over a mile and three-quarters.
