MILITARY SPORTS.

Tun military sports arranged tq take place at Potter's Paddock to-morrow are attracting a great deal of attention, both amongst Intending competitors und tho public generally. Tho city mid suburban volunteer corps are taking a very lively interest in "tho seiieii of events in which members aio to competo, and country corps are by no means backward, as they aro expected to rausier about SO ftrong, tho Hamilton Rifles alono sending 40 men. The Drill-shed last evening presented a very pretty and animated spectacle, the "A -, Battery mustering in force for practice in big gun drill, and tho two uaval companies for signalling and mining drill. Entries wero received last evening tor all of the advertised events, and competition is likely to bo keen in each. The entries for tho quarter-mile- foot-race, 100 yds handicap, and tugs of war wore remarkably good, and ou tho whole some really good sport should bo provided. The first ruco is to bo startod at 1 rj.m. and the events will take place punctually eveiy quarter of an.hour subsequently, with a bugle call two minutes before each sturt. Mr C. C. Dacrc, Hdn. Secretary, who has been moet assiduous in hie exertions in connection with tho sports, wishes to draw tho attention of competitors to the information lurnished in our advertising columns as to dress, conditions, etc., it haviutf been arranged that tho volunteers shall run in regulation trousers and shirts or guernseys (not in tights). His Excellency tlio Governor nnd Liidy Onslow uro expected to bo present, and special arrangements will be mado ior them on tl>n grandstand. A meeting of the committee of officers who have charge of tho arrangement* for tho Military Sport* to-morrow wuf- hold last evening, w|io:i a considerable amount of routine business wn.i transacted. <•
