; \ ■■■■■:■. t Wellington, this day. The principal witness at the Sweating Commission this morning was Mr G. Londoni secretary of the Railway Servants' Society. He said the first grievance the men had waa non-payment df board •and lodging allowance. This used to be paid; at one time, and the men felt its lose all the more as the clerks, Inspectors, foremen, etc., got from 7a 6d to 10s per nighb travelling allowance. They also objected to the .'"employment of so many lads.' At Wellington station, seventy-five per cent. of. the traffic hands on the plat--1 form were lads: Irom, 16 to .19. In. consequence the men were leaving whenever a good .opportunity occurred. The guards COoipl«iJ r, that' the; hours were too long , . They bud to work 13J hours per .day. no more than five off duty. They contended they should always have a proper interval of at least eight hours for sleep. These long hours occurred twice a week.
