Melbourne, this day. The Champion Stakes is run this afternoon. The weather is cloudy. Owing to Melos and Rudolph receiving support last night, the bookmakers were able to spring a point or two about the favourites. Dreadnought was most in favour, usurping the pride of place. The closing prices were : — Even money Dreadnought, 100 to 90 against Carbine, 100 to 12 Melos, 100 to 5 Rudolph. Ustane, who fell in the lasfc race on Tuesday, has been destroyed. The result of the Champion Stakes should reach Auckland shortly after six o'clock this evening. An extra with the result will be issued from this office immediately on receipt of the message.
