A HANDSOME JUBILEE SOUVENIR.

A Jubilee souvenir of a very attractive character, which has been in course of preparation for several montli-s past; is now ready. Ife consists of an elaborate pork upon New Zealand past and present, and is published nnder the title of "Tho jT eff Zealand Jubileo and Exhibition Chronicle." Its aim is to set forth, by attractive description and fiiwt-class pictorial illustration, the extraordinary progress made by the colony during the past fifty year's. In this effort no expense which could contribute to render the work worthy 0 { tbo subject and the colony has. been spared. '■ Besides a chromo-lithographic cover depicting some of the most notable New Zealand scenes, the book comprises upwards of a hundred first-class engravinge, exhibiting the scenery and the industrial and commercial buildings of tho colony, together with views of the chief towns, contrasting their apnearanco to-day with their condition at an earlier period. These pictures are especially interesting. Combined with these features are wellwritten articles on the chief products and industries of the colony, statistical information and other matter, which will enable coloniats to send abroad in a very convenientand attractive form a faithful picture of the land they live in. Part I. gives a light, palatable sketch of the year 1840. the formation of New Zealand into a colony and the condition of the country at that date. This ttetch is nicely illustrated with pictures of (ia various scenes at the time of the nsr- ' jative, including tho departure of an early emigrant ship for Now Zealand, and tho interior of tho vessel at dinner-time, quite a marked contrast oo the splendid cabins and appointments of the ocean-liner of to-day. The second portion of the paper consists of a picture of New Zealand ia tho year 1890. Each of the leading centre?, is described and illustrated with numerous engravings of ail the principal buildings and striking scenery in and around them. The cities of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin aro also historically treated, short accounts being given of the arrival of the first emigrants, compiled from most original sources. The third part i_ devoted to "The Products and Industries" of New Zealand, and includes historical accounts of the initiation and progress of most of the leading products. These include wool, gold, grain, kauri gum, preserved and frozen meats, flax, dairy produce, etc., etc., with tables of statistic* for the last 35 years. The work has boen published under the special endorsement of the Commissioners of the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition. It contains a review of the Exhibition ; and the Government recognising its great value as a medium for spreading a knowledge of the resources of the colony widely abroad have registered it as a newspaper, sothat the postage in the colony will only be one half-penny, and abroad one pnny. Exclusive of the pictorial cover the work will comprise sixty pages of matter and illustrations, rather larger than the "Graphic" or " Illustrated London News," printed on fine toned papor. Nevertheless, to ensure a wide circulation, the publisher has fixed the price at one shilling per copy. " The New Zealand Jubilee and Exhibition Chronicle" is now published, and orders should be sent to the publisher at tbe Stak Office. Pasted to any address in the colony _d, outside the colony Id.
