OPERATIVE BAKERS' UNION.

THE InEW RULES,

A MEETING of members of the Auckland Operative Bakers' Union was held on Saturday night in Robson'a Rooms. About 30 members wero presont; t;ie President, Mr C. Smith, occupied the chair. A number of new members were enrolled. Copies of tho rules wore supplied to members. The hours of labour aro fixed at ten hours per day, half-an-hour for breakfast and an hour lor sponging included* Time of starting work to bo optional, providing that tho number of hours are not exceeded. The rule relating to wages stipulates that no member of the Union shall accept any situation at a less rate of wages than that obtained by the previous occupant of that situation ; or, in the case of a demand for an increase, such demand to bo sustained. .The rules also stipulate that; r-o member of the' Union Khali work with a non-member or for a non-member. No carter frliall be permitted to assist in a bakehouse ; but a baker may deliver broad, provide:! he does not exceed the stipulated number of hours. Another rule exacts that no member shall work for any employer who unduly endeavours to cut down the price of bread. Rale 24 provide.that any member guilty of informing n nonmember of a job or situation whilst there arc any Union men idle, who are competent and willing to accept of such position, shall be fined 10e without mitigation.

It was decided that a roil of members out of employment should be kept at tho shop of Mr J. VV. Wright, confectioner, Queenstrect.

MrFreeman reported that on Friday nighfc Mr Stephenson and himself attended the meeting of the Trades and Labour Council ns. delegates from the Bakers' Union, and were very kindly received. lie considered that the Trades and Labour Council would be tho backbone of the Union.

Messrs Smith and Wright were appointed to interview the employers and obtain from them an expression oi: opinion regarding the rules of the Union, a ccpy of which ttie Secretary was authorised to forward to each employer. Other routine business was also transacted.
