Scene at an Execution.
A painful story comes from PeViguex in France. A youth of 20, under sentence o! death for the murder of an old couple, under circumstances of great atrocity, waa executed on Saturday morning. Owing to his youth he expected that his sentence would be commuted, and when the executioner and attendant officials appeared in his cell, roused him from bis sleep, and told him he must die, he resisted to the utmost, uttering piercing screams which could be heard outside the gaol. He bad to be held down to have the fatal toilette performed ; he fought with the executioner and the gendarmes, and had to be carried to the guillotine screaming all the time ab the top of his voice. The executioner had to pull the young man's head through the lunette by main force, keeping hold of his ear with either hand, unbil bhe knife fell and ended bhis ghastly scene.
