LICENSING NOMINATIONS.

THREE WARDS CONTESTED.

PROHIBITION AT PONSONBY.

TEMPERANCE PARTY UNOPPOSED

FOR THREE DISTRICTS.

At noon to-day nominations for the forthcoming licensing elections were received by the Registrar, Mr S. Y. Collins, and duly posted at the Municipal offices. There will be contests in only three districts, Auckland North and Ea3t, and ac Ponsonby, where another prohibition struggle will take place. In Grafton, Karangahape, and Auckland South the temperance party have been elected without opposition. In Auckland North and East the same candidates have been nominated for both districts, and a hard fight may be anticipated Thirteen candidates have also been nominated for these two districts, though it seems more than likely that three of these will retire before the election takes place, providing matters are satisfactorily arranged. The moderate and independent candidates in each of these wards are : —Messrs C. Bailey, J. J. Craig, J. J. Holland, A. Porter and Jonathan Winks. The following are the nominations :

Grafton K^oad.—John Burton, Robert Froude, Charles Layer, James Paterson, David Robertson. These were declared duly elected.

Karangahape.—David Goldie, Henry Hirst, Thomas Prosser (senior), William Service, Enoch Wood. These were also declared elected.

Auckland South. — James Caradus, Philip Crowe, David Goldie, Philip Herepath, Robert Tudehope. There being no opposition the Returning Officer declared these gentlemen duly elected. Ponsonby. —John Smith Bigelow, Thomas Edmund Dufaur, George Gregory, William Hutchison, Alfred Osborne Knight, Thomas Taylor Maseheld, William Mason, Daniel Bunell v*cDonald, tieo. Plummer, Simuel Charles Wright. The election takes place on the 19th of February, the polling booth selected being the Oddfellows' Hall, Ponsonby.

Auckland North. —Hugh Falconer Anderson, Charles Bailey, James William Carr, Joseph James Craig, Edmund Ellingham, Frederick George Ewinpton, Charles Goyder Hill, James Job Holland, Charles Cook man McMillan, Joseph Newman, Adam Porter, Joshua Robinson, Jonathan Winks. The polling booth will be at the V.M.C.A. Buildings.

Auckland East.—The candidates nominated for this district are the same as in Auckland North. Mr Collins' room, in the R.M. Court buildings, High-street, has been appointed the polling booth.
