SUMMARY JURISDICTION.
THE DEFAULTING BANK
TELLER.
ALLEGED MISCARRIAGE OF
JUSTICE.
Sydney, December 3.
Thomas, the defaulting bank teller of the Bank of New Zealand, was charged before the Court to-day with embezzling the funds of the bank, and pleaded guilty, electing to be dealt with summarily, and counsel for the bank having intimated that the prisoner had made the fullest reparation in his power, he was sentenced to six months' imprisonment.
Sydney, this day.
The Sydney "Morning Herald," commenting on the case of Thomas, who was tried yesterday for embezzling the funds of the Bank of New Zealand and dealt with summarily in the lower Court, condemns the method adopted, and says it will create an uneasy feeling that the cause of justice has suffered. The " Herald " urges that although the reparation made by the prisoner to the Bank of New Zealand mieht be satis-
factory it could not satisfy the requirements of justice.
The " Daily Telegraph " also comments on the Thomas case, and declaims against what it terms a miscarriage of justice. The " Telegraph " expresses a hope that the Minister of Justice will cause a searching inquiry to be made into the whole affair,; '
