A LEGAL GRIEVANCE.

Wellington, this day. In th© Supremo Courb this morning Judge Richmond commented on the withdrawal of the subsidy of £150 to the New Zealand Law Reports. Apparently there was no one in the House at the time to point out that the interpretation of the law was a matter of some importance to the country—almost, in fact, as much as a knowledge of the text of the laws themselves. He was sorry none of the members of the profession in Parliament had drawn attention to this.
Mr Edwards remarked that the subsidy was struck out at the instance of members of the, bar in the House. His Honor said he believed that was so—junior members.
Mr Bell said an equivalent of the subsidy was made up by an arrangement with the Government as to printing the reports. His Honor remarked that very little notice seemed to be taken in the Legislature of the decisions of the judges, and he wits surprised that those -who bad to make the •laws did not take the trouble to become acquainted with the way in which tho axisK ing Acta were interpreted.
