THE LOW PRICE OF DAIRY PRODUCE.

(To the Editor.)

Sik,—l see the farmers have at last formed themselves into a club to protect their interest against dairymen and the Grocers' Association. Ever since the dairies started they have bean beating them down in price every year, till now the farmer can scarcely make an existence. Cows are no cheaper now than they were five years ago—in fact, there arts very few good dairy cows to be bought ab any price. They keep on trying to get milk cheaper ; but it makes very iitilo difference to them how low they sell the milk —it is the farmer that Buffers — retailers get tho same profit now as they did when farmers were getting a good price for their milk. Ask any dairyman if it would pay him to produce his own milk, and ho will toll you no. Then why on earth should the farmer work for them for nothing ? Tell me what man works harder than tho farmer, for his work is never done, from 4 o'clock in the morning till 8 ab night. In fact, there is nothing in Auokland district that the farmer produces from which he can make more than a bare existence ah the present time, so that it needs a club or something else to put farming on a different bapis,or we shall soon join t'ha-greab majority by going bankrupt. I hope that the meeting on Friday next will be well patronised by dairy farmers, and if it is to their interest, Jet every farmer join the Club to a man, for unity is strength, and if dairymen don't like the terms let the Club do the same us they are doing in Melbourne, and refuee to supply any Company or middle man, and opiiii their own deput and sell their own milk and butter. —1 am, etc.,
