TYPHOID FEVER.

VERY PREVALENT IN WELLINGTON.

(BY TELEGRAPH. —SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.)

Wellington, this day. This disease is very prevalent here, and I beard of nine cases in one street and mention of others in various parts of the town. Speaking about this, the "Post" says :—" A great many people think the poison is conveyed in the milk. It is said thab there are dairies around Wellington in anything bub a sanitary condition or position, some being near, to fellmongeries or slaughter yards, and the cows belonging to others habitually drinking foul water, contaminated by drainage from these places. The capacity of milk for conveying the typhoid infection under Buch circumstances is well known. We are not quite sure as to what power, if any, local bodies may have to inspect dailies and their surroundings, but if there is any legal power of inspection it should at once be exercised, and' a full report obtained, so that if tho dairies are a source of danger they may be restrained before any more valuable lives are sacrificed to typhoid fever. If the infection does proceed from bhis source, it ought not to be difficult to establish the fact."

LORD CRANLEY ILL.

Captain Saville is improving in healthLord'Cranley, who left for Nelson on Thursday, is indisposed. His Excellency the Governor has received a mes.ase from his medicalattendant to bhe following.effecb:—"Lord Cranley has had a feverish attack, but the symptoms do not at present denote typhoid. It is hoped thab it is only a relapse from his recent convalescence from jaundice."
