COMPENSATION COURT.

The Courb of Compensation held by Mr Justice Gillies, pi*CL4dent, and Messrs Barstow and Wren, assessors, in respect of a claim for £639 for land taken for public works • afc Kaipara, was resumed this morning, and was proceeding all day. Mr J. A. Tole appeared for the claimant, and Mr C. E. Button for the Minister of Public Works. A large number of witnesses were examined on both sides, and evidence for the defence is now being taken. The land taken was 13a 2r 12p, and the land claimed to be injuriously ati'ectod was 92 acres. The owner, M.artin Walsh, claimed £10 per acre for tbe land taken ; £169 13s 9d for severance and cost entailed ; and £300 for damage sustained by having 92 acres cut off irom water.- In giving evidence, he stated that the railway which passed through his land was of no advantage to him, but, on the contrary, a serious loss.
