CHARGE OF BURGLARY

Hamilton, this day. At the R.M; Court on Saturday, Willoughby was charged with burglariously entering the Council Chambers and stealing therefrom, one receipt book, value one shilling. He was tried before Mr Searancke and Mr Coafces, Justices. The evidence showed that prisoner was seen in the. Chambers by the police sergeant rummaging the papers and was arrested on coming out. The justices held that burglarious entry was not proved, and sentenced the prisoner to three months in Mount Eden for stealing the receipt book. Prisoner had been drinking heavily before committing the crime.
