AUCKLAND COURSING CLUB.
The long-delayed contest for the Birthday Cup in connection with the Auckland Coursing Club was brought to a satisfactory termination on Saturday, at Plumpton Park, P.ipatoitoi. Between 70 and 80 spectators journeyed out from Auckland, and they were rewarded by witnessing some excellent trials, the hares running strong and well. The Cup fell to Mr T. McEwin's Blue Cap, who was a strong favourite. He won the Derby last year. The best course of the afternoon was between Kangaroo and Smuggler, both dogs doing a lot of genuine work, and it ended in favour of the first named. The following are the results: — FIHST ROUND. Mr T. McEwin's Blue Cap ran a bye Mr W. O'Grady's The Turbit beat Mr J. Wakefield's Fly Mr G. Hope's Smuggler beat Mr T. McEwin's Nana Mr Jas. Johnson's Kangaroo beat Mr Owen Glen's Rubina ■BO no Plue Cap beat The Turbit X uigaroo beat Smuggler JPIJJAL KOTJND. Mr T. McEwin's blue d Blue Cap, by Welcome Jack—Lady, beat Mr Jas. Johnson's blk and w d Kangaroo, by ScampViolet, and won the Cup.
