HAWKE'S BAY STEEPLECHASE.
The Press Association supply the following details of the running : —
Hawke's Bay Steeplechase Handicap, of 300sovs; seco.id horse so receive 50sovs and third horse 20sovs from tho stake. About three miles and a half.

The field gob away well together, and Orient was the first to show in front. Ariel took command at bhe gorse bushes, with Orient and Chemisb nexb, bub at the Railway bend, Ariel, who was leading, went the wrong course. Passinsc bhe manuka fence bhe order was : Oddfellow, Chemisb, Orient, and Orlando, Waterfall bringing up the rear. All the horses, with tho exception of Waterfall, book bhe water jump in excellent sbyle ; and tho next jump, which was a post and rail and gorse fence, the latter absolutely refused to jump and from this point took no part in the race. Orient was in front at the sbono wall, wibh Oddfellow and Chemisb in close attendance. At the double Orient -.till led, and no change took place from this point until reaching bhe po3t and rail jump, which Chemisb and Oddfellow book' together, Orient close up third, and Premium and Orlando nest. At the gorse Premium came down. At the double in front of the stand Chemist, Oddfellow, and Orient were very closo cogebher, followed by Orlando and Panic, who were closing up fast. This order was kept until after the lasb stone wall hud been reached, when Chemist and Oddfellow wero together, bub Chemisb appeared to stumble at the post and rails, and although he came again he could nob gat up with Oddfellow, y.'ho took the la3b jump in capital style. Here Orient passed Chemist, bub could not reach Oddfellow, and the labber won by a length and a-half, Chemisb a couple of lengths away third, Orlando fourth, and Panic fifth. Time, Gmin 4soc.
