EDUCATION IN HAWKE'S BAY.
AN UNFAIR STATEMENT.
(BY TELEGKArH. —OWN CORRESPONDED T.)
Napiek, thi3 day. A letter which has been widely copied by the New Zealand press appeared in the " Daily Telegraph " of May 29 commenting on the way in which school children %ere examined in Hawke's Bay. The letter was signed by an ex-schoolmaster and provoked a discussion at the meeting of the Education Board yesterday. The Inspector characterised the statements as unjustifiable and absolutely false, and on the motion of Captain Russell, the following motion was passed: "That in the opinion of the Board a letter signed by James Smith, dated from Taradale, and published in the 'Daily Telegraph' of the 29th May last, isquiteab variance with the system of education pursued by the Inspector, as witnessed by members of the Board, and therefore unjustifiable and not founded on facts."
