Sydney papers contain later news of the recent disastrous lire af. Levuka. The total losses are t-et down variously at from £20,000 to £30,000. Tho higher sum is thoiight to be the nearest approximate. Insurances are, as far as can be leant, in , English offices, covering' produce only about £4,000; over buildings and general merchandise :— Hamburg Magdeburg Comj _-a.,y, £3,600; Transatlantic of Hamburg, i i_ ,450 ; New Zealand Insurance Company, i __,950 ; South British Company, £2^oo ; ; 1 mperial British Company, £500; Han--5 ea.ic Company, £'100 ; Equitable of New ! Zealand, £500 ; Union Company of New j:Zealand, £250; total, £18.250. The losses 1i to the different companies will be considerably reduced by the largo amount of : goods salvaged, as from the first it was ' seen' that it would be useless to attempt to save the principal warehousing buildings.
