FIRE AT MELBOURNE.

TWO MEN KILLED AND SEVERAL SERIOUSLY INTURED.
TOTAL LOSS,
Melbourne, this day. The disastrous fire which broke out in the Bijou Theatre early last evening originated in the dress-circle.
The flames made" rapid progress, owing to the scarcity of water, and the theatre was speedily destroyed.
The Palace Hotel was saved, but was considerably damaged by water. Marshall's printing establishment was, however, destroyed. Captain Parsons, of the East Melbourne Brigade, and a man named Williams were killed by a falling wall. '
Firemen Penbanks, Scott, Morris and Dendo, Lieutenant Thomas and Constable Coffey were seriously injured.
The loss of property is estimated at Marshall's loss alone amounts to £6,500.
Messrs Brough and Boucicault, theatrical managers, sustained a personal loss of ;£io,ooo by the destruction of scenery and effects in use at the theatre. They were, unfortunately,
