Messrs Arthur and Buddle's Weekly Report.—There have bee:: eight sales by auction this week. Two of household furniture and effects on Monday, at the residence of the late Dr. Stockwell, Symonds street, at which there was a crowded attendance ; the sale continued for about eight hours, first-class prices Were obtained. On Wednesday, at the mart, the attendance was not so large as usual, bidding was dull, not a large business was done. One of drapery, clothing, etc.. at the mart ; attendance was small, but little business was done. One of unclaimed luggage, etc., at tne mart, on Tuesday, which brought together a good number ; bidding was br _k, the result very satistaetory. One of properties at the mart on Thursday, a lair number present, but there was but little disposition to buy; the properties ottered were two cottages and allotments fronting Calliope Koad, Sunnyside, -North Shore (these were sold at £225 each), and house and allotments on Mount Lden Load, opposite the residence of Mr J. Batger. These were not sold, although offered at exceedingly low prices. Three of poultry, produce, fruit, etc., at the mart on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The vhole have been well attended, and at each a large business was done. Produce of all hinds in good demand at fair prices. Potatoes of lirstclass quality are wanted; many inferior ones comingtohand. Onions are in good demand. A ■ very much larger quantity could have been sold ,' for shipping to other ports, but growers would not take a price which would allow a fair margin to the shippers, which we think uu- , wise. Bacon of good Quality and well got up is much wanted. Butter: But little demand yet for corned; there is a good demand for good ' lresh. Fresh-laid eggs arc wanted. Cheese of i good quality moves oil'fairly; a quantity of inferior to hand. 1-ioncy is still quiet. Fruit Still to hand in large quantity; the supply of plums - has been less, but an increase of damsons; prices have been very fluctuating, but littio, if - any, improvement on last week's; large, sound _ peaches sell well. A large number ot poultry :. and pigs entered. Fowls, none of first-class t quality, and prices ruled low. lurkcy. brought J: a fair price, so did ducks. Geeso tuld at low r prices. Mb Alexander AmcEx's Maskw Rri-out for the weekending March 23rd.—The sales of the week have been largely attended, with spirited competition for all lines submitted. There is a marked improvement in demand for all kinds of farm produce. Potatoes of good quality are scarce and much wanted, and stocks are now light in this line. Grain of all kinds freely to hand, and sales readily effected. There is a good demand. Onions: Large Supply. ■ Further advanced values for good lois. All lo hand cleared. Vegetables are scarce. Butter: No alteration. Fggs: Further rise in value. Market very bare. Honey has moved more freely. There is a demand for Waikato white clover. Bacons and hams are scarce, and arc much wanted. For cheese a steady demand exists. Values are unchanged. Fruit shows signs of becoming somewhat scarcer, and prices are gradually improving. Good dessert apples have been readily*bought up, as have also largo cooking kinds, Plums show a heavy fall olt'in quantity, and their season is about over. Dessert pears have been in good demand, and the increased supply has been short of requirements. In peaches the supply has been very large, and Hood prices have been obtained. Tomatoes have advanced fully YO per cent, in value. Quinces selling- fairly well. Grapes: Values unchanged. Supp y very short. Lemons still command high prices. .Supply short. Watermelons in fair supply: >oud values obtained. The shipment of Island fruit, ex Wainui, was smaller than usual, and the quality was not iirsf-class, but very satisfactory price's wore obtained. Poultry has again been entered in largo numbers—fully 1,600 nead, Prices artrafrcd higher than lust week. Puts also in large numbers ; quality on the whole good; prices a trilio easier.
