POINT CHEVALIER ROAD BOARD.

On Monday last a meeting of this Board was held, the members present being Messrs Oliver (Chairman), Taylor, Walker, and Duxfietd. After the minutes were read, Mr Th.-aites asked the Chairman to amend the minutes by omitting the names of Duxfield and Walker, through being connected with tbe n'ght-soil nuisance, of whicli nuisance Mr Thwaitea complained again. After some remarks about the sewerage of the Asylum with regard to continuing the sewer further out to sea, the following 'letter was received from Mr Mcßedmond : —"Gentlemen, —I beg to draw your attention again to the gorse overspreading the roads of this district. It is ovei six months since property owners were served with notices. It is a disgrace and culpable negligence on the part of the Board to allow the roads to be almost covered with gorss. Another very important matter which I wish to draw your attention to is, you have 690 yards of broken metal to be applied to the district roads. The carting and spreading of this large quantity of metal ought to be tendered for, same as all tlio other Road Boards, and not do as you always have done, i.e., let one of the membera of the Itoad Board do it at his own price and in what manner he thinks "fit. It is a disgrace to any Board to connive at such proceedings, and make use of the ratepayers' money in such a fcrra. 1 shall not write on this subject again, but I will have the Act put into force, which is very simple and plain. —'I have the honour, &c, &c, Jno. McRed mo.d."—In answer to the above, it was proposed to be considered by a special committee. This letter caused some very sharp remarks. The Chairman said they nad been always doing the roads tlie 'same way, and ho did not see why they should not give the work to the same man as long as he did his work well.—Mr Thvvaites asked again what Were they going to do about the night-soil. —Mr Walker said he must first prove it a nuisance.—After a little excitemenb over Mis matter the meeting terminated.
