THE SCHOONER LIZZIE IN A HURRICANE.
THE VESSEL CONDEMNED.
A couple of hours after the telegram reporting the mishap to the schooner Buster was received in Sydney, Mr Williams' schooner Albatross sailed into Port Jackson with news that his well-known island trading schooner Lizzie had come to o-rief at the Solomon Group. Tha Lizzie, it seems, left Sydney for the Solomon Group early in November, and on the fourteenth day out was overtaken by a severe hurricane in which she had a narrow escape from foundering. To save the vessel, which was lying on her beam ends, entirely at the mercy of the waves, the captain had to cut away the masts. This had the effect of righting the vessel, which was afterwards taken into Howlah, where she was surveyed and condemned. The crew of the Lizzie were passengers by the Albatross. The Lizzie is insured in the South British Insurance Company.
