PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL.
The usual monthly meeting of the Council was held at Momnsville on Thursday, the Bbh inafc. Present; Councillors Chepmel* (Chairman), lleaney, Hunt, Mills, Murphy, Browning, Howell, and Brnnskill. The Thatneß Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrote in reply to a letter from blio Council, that they had received the sum of £519 19s from the Governments which had been stopped out. of Goldhelds revenue accruing to the Council, in order topaylheinoneys duo by L Jiako to the Hospital Board. Mr J. Chambers wrote asking if the Council had any wire rope on hand, as he had been informed that such was the case. If so -would they sell it and at what price. He was anxious to purchase on behalf of the Tin Company. The Council resolved to otter tho rope to Mr Chambers at one half of the original cost price. The rope was reported to be in frood condition. The original cost was"s6s per cwt. less 25 percent. The amount for the 46 cwt. would be £64 Bs. No applications had been received for the right to run a punt across the Waihou at Waiorongamai. A number of new names were added to the list of ratepayers on their own application?. lie rales on" Native Lands Jthe amounts derivable were as follows: Te Avoha, £9 3.s 6d; Waitoa, £46 8s 6d; Patetere, £69 14s ; Matamata, £17 2». These ratc3 had to be spent for the advantage of the land that paid them. It was settled, after discussion, to allocate the amounts as follows :—Te Aroha on the road through Wailmiakeke East; Waitoa on the Wangakawa-Cam-bridcr'e Road; Patetere JfS9, to be spent on the f.ichfield-Te Aroha Koad, where it run? through block 3, Patetere North, Surrey District: and blocks Ift and 11 Tapapa Surrey District; Matamata on the LiehfieldTe Aroha Koad through Okauia, JS'o. 4, j Native Reserve. It was resolved tliat the amount? allocated to the Waitoa and .Matamata ridings be handed over tc the Koad Boards for expenditure as allocated. Ih proposed amendment to Public Works Act proposed to be biought in noxc session, tho Council resolved that they recommend that sub-section 1 of section 9 be deleted. This refers to the power proposed to bo given to local bodies tocompelownersof land To clear furze or sweet briar from off their own land. It was also resolved that they recommend that sub-section 5 of section 15 be deleted. The engineer made his report on the various works in progress, which were going on satisfactorily. Tho usual accounts, amounting to £240, were passed for payment.
