YACHT CLUB'S CRUISE.

By far blie most important event in connection with the water excursions ■was - the gathering of the Auckland Yacht Club. The yachts assembled off the Queen-street Wharf shortly after 9 a.m., in position to start, but owing to the absence of wind-at the time could not get away untiL two hours later. Prior to leaving a few" club evolutions were to have been gone through, but on account of the absence of, any thing like a good breeze the intention had to be dropped. The coramo dcre's Hag wais flying on board-Mr Wiseman's

yacht Matangt, and Mr Wiseman controlled the movements of the, ileet, giving the nocessary sailing directions throughout the cruise. About 11 a .m. a light breeze, accompanied .by slight showers of rain, set in from the south-west, which was at once taken advantage of by the yachts. They proceeded slowly down the harbour, presenting- rather an imposing spectacle, some thirty white - winged craft of all sizes being represented, from the stately Matangi to the small three or four ton boats. The steam yacht Nautilus had beon placed at the disposal of the Yacht Club by Mr Featherstone, and a large number of ladies and gentlemen availed themselves of tho limitations issued to accompany the fleet on board the Nautilus to Home" Bay, Motutapu, wiiere the yachtsmen were to enjoy the hospitality of the Messrs Reid. The Nautilus left the Queen-street Wharf about 10 a.vi., and shortly afterwards proceeded down to Motutapu. TII3 fleet of yachts passed tho North Head about noon, and those on board expected to spend a pleasant couple of hours at the island before returning home.
