LETTERS FROM PROMINENT CITIZENS.
THE LATE REV. HENRY WARD
BEECHER,
People have an idea that tho Waterbury because a cheap watch is cheaply mad/.. A visit to the Company's factory at Water* bury, Conn., would decidedly alter this impression. On seeing the extent and variety of tho machinery used, and the neatness, order and organisation there exhibited, yoi* begin to realiso that making a I'h.f.ap watch (and good timo-keepex) is not, .y any moans, tha off-hand affair you had thought it was. A* you pass through department after department and observe the working of wonderful automatic machines, which make parrs so fine that y Hi cm scarcely see them, aud yet so accurate that thoy can be taken ab random ami Qbted together to form a perfect watch; as you note the handling of tho parts by dainty and skilful fineers, the de'"o<cy of tho processes, and the thorough-,.c-s and care as to every detail, you find it diiiioult to imagine that they are not snaking hundred-dollar watches, and you then become convinced that the Watekbury is cheap, nob because poorly made, but bocause unique and simple in construction.
