ACCIDENT TO AN AUCKLAND RACEHORSE.
(BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
Wellington, this day. The racehorse Cuirassier met with an accident yesterday while being shipped on the S.s. Manapouri for Lyttelton. As he was walking across a broad plank he became excited and started to back. In his struggles, both his hind legs slipped over the side, between the wharf and the vessel. After some trouble he was got up on the wharf. It was then seen that in his struggles the near hind leg had been severely cut from fetlock to the inside of the thigh. The horse was subsequently put in a box and slung on board in that fashion. The accident: is most unfortunate for the owners and trainer, as Cuirassier was thought to have a good chance of winning the New Zealand Cup and tho Canterbury Derby, and his injuries are likely to prevent his doing any training for some weeks.
