RUGBY UNION SPORTS.
...I. ■ "^> The Auckland Rugby Union have been blessed with splendid weather this afternoon for their postponod sports which are being held at Potter's Paddock, Epsom. In consequence a very small number of spectators journeyed out to Epsom to see them. The following is a list of the officials :— Vice-Presidents: Hon. E. Mitchelson, J. M. Brigham, Esq., J. M. Clark, Esq., W. S. Wilson, Esq., and Dr. Posnett. Committee: Mr T. Henderson, Mr K. Crowe, Mr A. B. Burgess, and Mr J. Arneil. Call Steward : Mr R. Crowe. Starter: Mr F. Edwards. Judges: Messrs J. M. Brigham and T. Henderson ; Lap-taker, Mr J. A. Cooper ; Time-keeper, Mr L. Coupland; Handicappers, Messrs W. W. Robinson, A. H. Cotter, E. O'Hare ; Hon. Treasurer, Mr F. D. Clayton : Hon. Secretary, Mr G. H. Dixon. During tho afternoon Hunter's Artillery Band played a number of instrumental selections. The first event, kicking the football, started at half-past one, and was won by R. Crowe, 61yds Ift lOin, Ist ; J. Braund, 58yds, 2nd. Place-kicking Football.—R. Crowe (12 points), Ist; T. Ryan (7 points), 2nd. IOOYds Handicap. — First heat: A. J. Farquhar (4yds), 1; H. Barton (syds), 2; W. Purdy (scratch), 3. Second heat: T. A. Moresby (4vds), 1 ; R. B. Lusk (scratch), 2 ; J. N. Baxter, 3. Final: Moresby, 1; Lusk, 2 ; Farquhar, 3. Half-mile Handicap.—F. Gough (50yds), 1; A. E. Braund (SOyds), 2 ; J. N. McCausland (40yds), 3. This was a good race, but Braund kept the lead for the greater part of the distance. Gough caught him, and finished a winner. Atkinson caught McCausland, but could not pass him. Tizard was the la3t the first time round, but famed considerably on those in front of im. Ho started to spurt the second timo round, but when turning a corner a spectator fell down in front of him, and Tizard fell over him and lost about 30 yards. He got up again and spurted very hard, and, though he went up very rapidly, he was unable to catch the leader, finishing behind Athineon, who was fourth.
One-mile Handicap.—M. Fagan, 1; S. Downey. 2 ; J. Tizard, 3. Atkinson was the only other starter, and Fagan won easily.
